The Story of Figerly Bunny
Hello, my name is Andrew. The Figerly Bunny project came to be because my Daughter, Lila asked me to write her a fairy tale when she was 6. I really took it to heart, and hand wrote the story in a notebook. After some encouragement Lila convinced me to make it into a physical book. I decided to do just that. The result is the Splendid Tale of Figerly Bunny.
I used real world items in the story : Figerly is a name Lila came up with for one of her stuffed ballerina bunnies (the pink one to the left) and Katerina was the name for the other one (the white one). Also, Madame Loftus is named after one of Lila's teachers at school.
And of course, fairy wings had to make it into the story as well. Lila used to wear them all the time and even I have worn them from time to time. And I felt a bit more magical when I did...
Finally I wanted the book (and all future books) to contain a deeper message, one that conveys values. In Figerly's case, the principle is GRATITUDE. She could have decided to have different feelings about how her day ended but she chose gratitude instead. Figerly believes there is always something to be grateful for and it is good to keep that close to your heart.
Figerly is for Everyone
I was heavily influenced by Dr. Seuss as a kid. And even as an adult I still collect vintage Dr. Seuss books.
Some of the inspiration for the magical elements in the book came directly from him. The rest was just inspired by real life, and also Lila's imagination. We used to tell made up amazing stories about fantastical adventures. I have always loved the boundless imagination and where it can take you.
I hope you find this story inspirational. I know I was inspired writing it for Lila and I realized that perhaps it can inspire many more kids than just her.
